Today is Ganesh Chaturthi in India and while we celebrate to praise the lord, we forget the large amount of waste we leave behind. We contribute a lot towards spoiling our very own planet. Designer and Photographer Sandeep Damre had an amazing solution to this. Here’s what he says:
“We have making our Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations eco-friendly and creative for the past 13 years. Instead of the clay idols we have been trying out various materials like leaves, papier mache, mumra chikki, origami, fruits, vegetables etc. This year it is bitter gourd- karela. The healthy bitter gourd has inspired us this year and we have thought of not immersing the idol in the river as we do every year. This year we will immerse the idol in a tub at home and then recycle the bitter gourds as manure for plants. And this also complies with belief that the lord comes and returns back to nature. ”
